little rituals

a while back, a friend posted on her instagram story and asked her followers to share their little daily, weekly, or seasonal “rituals” — you know, the small and seemingly insignificant things you do as part of your life. i got a kick out of reading some of the responses, and realized that i hadn’t really ever stopped to take too much stock of my own life “rituals.” here are some of my favorites. i’d love to hear about yours!

pulling a tarot card every morning

catching up on the new york times arts, lifestyle, and style sections every saturday morning over coffee (i’m a total sucker for the “vows” column in particular)

working from my favorite cafe on thursday mornings while listening to the deux u podcast

making a modified version of this smoked salmon pasta — swapping asparagus for capers — every august. not sure why it’s august specifically, but it just makes sense to me. i made it last sunday evening, while sipping a glass of the white wine i used in the recipe, natch.

when staying at a hotel/airbnb with a coffee maker…making a cup of coffee after dinner every night and sipping it in bed. something about it feels so luxurious!

speaking of coffee…getting a medium hot with one sugar and oat milk and a glazed donut at the airport dunkin’ donuts before any morning flight

getting *one* pedicure a year in mid-to-late may, to kick off the summer

browsing zillow at least once a week — this includes local cities and ones across the country (silver lake, los feliz, hollywood hills, and venice in LA are my faves, mainly because i love the spanish-style architecture and bohemian style, but also because the homes are so different than those in new england).

+also, the apartment therapy house tours, both the photo and video ones!

having dinner and watching a classic movie right next to the atlantic ocean every summer at the boston harbor hotel (sadly, a ritual that is no longer because the hotel ended the summer movie series, womp)

rewatching gilmore girls every fall (ultimate comfort show!)

buying a $3.99 bouquet of flowers every time i go to trader joe’s
